The City of York Council provides services to over 200,000 people, including to older and disabled people to ensure that they are able to stay in their own homes for longer and keep their independence.
Pickerings Mobility team maintain, service and repair 190 hoists, stairlifts and through floor lifts across Council-owned residential properties across the region, from Heworth in the North East of York, to Foxwood in the South West of York. Pickerings Lifts also uninstall and remove stairlifts on behalf of the Council.
Each unit is maintained twice a year in order to ensure that it runs smoothly and to reduce the likelihood of it needing repairing in the future.
We also test each hoist every six months in line with the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations (LOLER).
As older and disabled people are reliant on stair lifts at all times of the day and night, we provide callouts 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Our number remains the same whether we are called in operational hours or not.
All of our specialist mobility engineers are qualified to at least NVQ Level 2 and are trained to service, repair and maintain all makes and models of mobility equipment, ensuring a fast and efficient fix.
Our administration staff have also gone out on call with our mobility engineers on this contract, in order to increase their technical knowledge and understanding of the issues that may occur with different types of equipment.
We are proud to have worked with the City of York Council for twenty years and have much experience of working where our customers live, as well as alongside vulnerable people, and all engineers and management staff on the contract have had customer care and safeguarding training.
