Luxury Bespoke Passenger Lift in Historical Building

Pickerings recently had the honour of working with a Newcastle based award winning Architects team, who have been recognised for their contribution to the restoration of historic buildings, to deliver a completely bespoke lift solution in the significant historical building Matfen Hall.

The Hall is part of the larger Matfen Estate, parts of which dates back as far as 122 AD when the Hunnum Roman Fort was built, which was the fifth fort to be built on Hadrian’s Wall. 

Matfen Hall was completely rebuilt in 1832 on the site of the earlier Jacobean house by the 6^th Baronet, Sir Edward Blackett.

In 1999 following a major programme of work, the magnificent hall was opened as a hotel and operated by the 12^th Baronet, Sir Hugh Blackett until it was sold in 2020.

Matfen Hall has recently reopened again in May 2023 following an extensive multimillion pound renovation programme of the hotel, leisure and golf facilities, including restoration of the Grade II listed Great Hall.

The hotel is now one of the UK’s most luxurious hotels, with a great deal of care and attention being paid to the finishing touches around the hotel. The historic features of the building including the intricate stone detailing, elaborate timber carvings, panelling and decorative ceilings have been enhanced by careful restoration and the new rich and opulent décor.
